This piece was inspired by a Reiki session the artist experienced with a healing practitioner. Reiki is a therapeutic practice based on the idea that a healer can channel energy through touch to support the body’s natural healing processes and restore physical and emotional well-being. During the first session, the therapist mentioned what she mentioned the artist’s spirit guide.
Between appointments, the artist found herself reflecting deeply on this idea wondering what her spirit guide might be, and what it might look like. The first layer of the painting began as an intuitive interpretation of that guide, and from there the work continued to evolve organically.
Although the painting is full of action and movement, the overall energy is joyful, cheerful, and supportive. There is a strong sense of helpful, uplifting motion throughout the piece. The artist came to feel that this spirit guide may not be traditionally “pretty,” but is deeply committed to doing good work.
The painting measures 40 x 40 inches on a stretched canvas. While the piece began with heavier, more confused energy, it gradually transformed into something lighter and more whimsical. The artist used a vibrant palette of pinks, reds, blues, greens, and yellows, grounded by the presence of black, white, and their combinations.
It is the artist’s hope that the energy and emotion within this painting come through in the collector’s home, allowing its strength, positivity, and good energy to resonate and gently rub off on those who live with it.
